Funding Ideas For Schools

Having an orchestra or music band is a huge asset to any school or college. Not only do the music students benefit from all aspects of learning an instrument and performing, but it is also seen by  OFSTED as a particular "strength of the school". Well performed live music creates a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere,  the perfect backdrop for parent evenings, open days and other school events.

Money Raising Ideas

With the tight constraints of school budgets, it is not surprising that music is one of the most over stretched   departments in schools and colleges. It is becoming increasingly popular for schools to raise money for their departments through different funding events throughout the year.

Popular Music Funding Ideas & Events:

  • Carol concerts

  • Talent contests

  • Summer music schools

  • Musicals / Shows

  • Competitions

  • Orchestral Performances

  • Church Fairs

  • Public Performances

  • Sponsorship

  • External Funding Bodies;

One such external body is Youth Music

www.youthmusic.org.uk/about_us.jsp

They fund projects in three main areas:

  •  First Steps - creative music-making for children aged 0-5

  •  Make it sound - music-making for 5-18 year olds.

  • Vocalise! - for programmes where the voice is the main instrument.

Youth Music distributes its funds in a variety of ways including:

  • Open Programmes - open for general application.

  • Partnership Programmes  - potential partnership organisations invited to submit proposals

  • Action Zones - solicited applications from regional consortiums

  • Youth Music Initiatives -  initiatives or events that complement the above programmes
